The Bereans

Y’all, blame this one on Blue Bloods again. A protected celebrity said something to the detective that got me. The detective disagreed, but the celebrity insisted.

Everybody’s got three lives: public, private and secret. — Season 4 Episode 2, The City That Never Sleeps

The detective insisted that with him, what one saw is what one got. To that the celebrity replied, “Well then, your life must be easy.”

Are you exhausted by your three lives? Or two lives? Do you know people who are exhausting to know because they navigate among multiple lives or personalities? I’m not talking about compartmentalization, which can be safe for processing, but the construction and maintenance of three different lives.

Public Life — what you want everyone else to see

Private Life — what you allow your inner circle to see

Secret Life — what you do your best to protect so that no one sees

There comes a time when all our “lives” are forced to blend because the change we want or desperately need demands the absolute truth. We have to tear down certain walls and protections to allow God’s love and light to reconcile what needs building again; and leave the unnecessary and destructive  possibilities on the ground.

Here’s some Bible for you.

Hebrews 4:13 (yeah, that verse after “The word of God is quick, and powerful…”) — And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” (emphasis added)

2 Corinthians 4:1-2 (Paul’s testimony) — Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart, but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

Just a little food for thought. There is one God we serve, and we have one life — not three — because of Him. And this life of ours has all of its existence in Him — we live, move and have our being in Him. Consider the benefits of a unified life, under/in/through God, indivisible….no fragments, no missing parts, but WHOLE. No adjustments for this or that crowd — personal, private, or secret — from our Godly root. But the liberty of one transparent and fully freed life.

All things are possible to him that believes, right? SELAH.

Love to all.
