Learning & Spiritual Growth

Half of learning is learning. The other half of learning is unlearning… Half of spiritual growth is learning what we don’t know. The other half is unlearning what we do know.

Mark Batterson (In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day)

This quote is a great plumbline for measuring our spiritual growth and fruit bearing in Christ. We learn what we do not know. We unlearn what we do know. There is a constant receive and release where we submit our lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. On the journey, we grow up and we learn things about ourselves as we seek the Lord. We also learn things about the Lord.

I guarantee that at important developmental crossroads, we will be confronted by what He wants us to know. The catch will be that to learn what God wants to teach us, we have to release what we already know. I mean, discard the current knowledge. We have to feel like we are on shaky ground to learn to trust His good plan and His good word.

Dear Ones, I pray we are all still learning. I pray that in times of confrontation we submit quickly and allow the Father to teach us. I pray we do not have long struggles with what we do know so that we can learn what we do not know.

Let’s assess ourselves and make sure we are receiving and releasing when necessary. Selah.
