Fervent Love

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Are we accountable to God’s Love to us and through us? Not the feelings of love, but the actions of love. Love is not like this candy (pictured), always sweet with cute little messages and catering to the flesh. Loving God’s way challenges the flesh sometimes, and the feeling is not good. The end result is good, where we conquer getting our way to learn the way of sacrificing preference so others an experience God’s love through us.

Keep means to possess and to find oneself in. When it comes to loving like Jesus, Peter says to keep loving. Find ourselves sticking to love, remaining aware of His love in our hearts.

Earnestly. Our love must be earnest. It must be intentional. It must be without ceasing. We even have to watch how we joke about our hard hearts and our lack of love. God’s love does not stop. It is without ceasing for us all, thankfully. Are we accountable to unceasing love? Sometimes, we have to just determine that we will love. And in that love, love like God… with rich mercy and in great manner (Eph. 2:4).

Multitude. God’s love covers a multitude of sins. A whole lot of sins. A great number of sins or a great number of people. Love does not mean we keep secrets. Love is not about not wanting exposure. Love is all about knowing that I, alone, have my own multitude of sins that God’s Love covered and covers. So, I determine to love like God… regardless of challenge to my flesh. I determine to love until I am not offended by a multitude of sins and desire to let God’s love cover.

Will we be accountable to God’s Love, today and every day? Will we keep loving with intent, like our great God whose love is great? We can do it; His love is in our hearts (Rom. 5:5). Amen? Amen.
