When We Are A Law Unto Ourselves
Proverbs 14:12 ESV – There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
1 Timothy 1:18-20 ESV – 18) This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19) holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20) among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
In light of the series we’ve been walking through together on lawlessness, I thought about what happens when we become a law unto ourselves.
Galatians 3:24 NKJV – Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
When we determine we are right and wrong without a compass, then we become both judge and jury in our lives. We write the law for our lives. We live by our law. We ignore challenges to our law, or respond in angst or anger. We do not get to God’s law…and thus, according to Galatians 3:24, we do not get to Christ. We talk of faith in God, but believe only in our ability to judge ourselves right or wrong….and we guilt others into comforting and supporting us in our error. We make people accomplices to our foolery, and they conceive new struggles between relationship with God through Christ and how to “be there” for us.
It’s a real mess.
When we are a law unto ourselves, contrary to watered down opinion, Jesus is NOT Lord in/of our lives. He waits in line with His calling on our lives. He waits for us to allow an opening for His Word to open our eyes to our detoured condition. He waits on us.
This lawlessness series is about catching up with God. These teachings are meant to force introspection, a searching of our hearts by the light of the Scriptures.
On this site are entries to the series on The Queenly Seat. They encourage us to remain seated in Christ, and not to unseat ourselves. Unseated means out of position; it means a way that seems right to us. Unseated means illegal…which is the perfect description if we are our own sheriff.
Let’s pray for Holy Spirit to reveal seeds of lawlessness in us. Then, with beam-free eye, let’s pray for the world and saints everywhere to stay seated in Christ and not fall away into lawlessness.
