Lawlessness is a “big picture concept” with many smaller and individual affects and effects. The Bible speaks about lawless behavior and the man of lawlessness. Here is a synopsis, as our intro to the concept.
#1: TO ACT OUT LAWLESSNESS, we become slaves to unbounded behavior. Lawlessness leads to more lawlessness. We completely give ourselves over to the disregard and disrespect of law, rule, and boundary. We live without bounds; anything goes. (See Romans 6:19 ESV)
#2: THE INTENTION OF THE LAW IS TOWARD: the lawless and disobedient, the ungodly and sinners, the unholy and profane, those who strike their parents, murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the Gospel. (See 1 Timothy 1:9-11 ESV)
#3: THE LAW IS GOOD if one uses it lawfully (1 Timothy 1:8 ESV). If we obey God’s commands, then we understand by consequence the good in the law.
#4: SINNERS PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS; sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4 ESV). Sinners make a voluntary practice of sinning. Note: The sin reference here is different from the “sinner saved by grace” thing we hear in the local church.
#5: LAWLESSNESS IS ALREADY AT WORK, “stirring up hostility to Christ” and the saints (ESV footnotes). We see it in many ways. (See 1 Thessalonians 2:7 ESV)
Walk with me the next few weeks as we look into the concept of lawlessness as part of 1) my prophetic responsibility to share and 2) our collective duty of awareness of the scriptures and their relevance to our current times. Step away from the limiting belief of “law and grace” or Old Testament and New Testament. Consider the law as the general teaching or standard of the Lord. Consider ALL the Lord wants YOU AND I to do for Him in this life. Okay? Good.
I offer this entry and those to follow with sobriety. Lawlessness has been in my heart as a message for over one year. It is time now to bring attention to certain things and join the chorus of trumpeters to warn the Lord’s church to stay away from the subtleties that turn our hearts away from Him.
Love to all, please share, and subscribe — so you don’t miss one entry! And read the verses referenced in this entry. Spend some time in meditation and discuss with your accountability circle. Create more awareness of lawlessness in your region.
