The Berean Study #3

Welcome to SESSION THREE of THE BEREAN STUDY, this year’s discipleship class. Since we meet monthly, please review our learning objectives.

1. To consider in context some “popular” and often misquoted or poorly applied verses and passages of scripture
2. To search the scriptures and discover the truth as Holy Spirit reveals, and align and/or discard previous teachings received

Session three considers “show yourself friendly” from Proverbs 18:24 and “obedience is better than sacrifice” from 1 Samuel 15:22-23. We learn the context of Proverbs 18 the guidelines for wise relationships and in 1 Samuel 15 the meaning of God’s command — obedience.

Note: I made no comments to the contrast in Proverbs 18:24 that there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother because the emphasis is on the first half of the verse. But the contrast is present. Please share your insights below over the next month.
