This is one of those times where I just show you what the bible says. Let’s consider Proverbs 10:16.
KJV: The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
NASB: The wages of the righteous is life, The income of the wicked, punishment.
NET: The reward which the righteous receive is life; the recompense which the wicked receive is judgment.
NLT: The earnings of the godly enhance their lives, but evil people squander their money on sin.
This verse provides perspective and direction. What the righteous gather from our labor is meant to help us lead good lives. As well, God’s reward will always point toward abundant life in Him. Isn’t that something?
Wages are for work and labor. It is the proper exchange. God determines reward. We tend to want reward for work or labor, but that’s not the system. We work to produce and receive money or wages for our production (not our time…but that’s another discussion), per our employment contracts.
Just an encouragement to expect the right things from certain actions.
