Micaiah, the Last Holdout (reflection)
Micaiah is my favorite prophet in Scripture. Read about him in 1 Kings 22.
King Ahab tries to convince King Jehoshaphat to go to war. He has all the prophets in the land prophesy agreement with his desire for war. But King Jehoshaphat asks to inquire of the Lord.
Principle: There are prophets, and then there is the prophet of the Lord.
King Ahab relents, and sends for the prophet Micaiah. En route to the kings, the messenger entreats the prophet to “let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably” (v. 13). In other words, the messenger asks Micaiah to agree with the prophets of the land. He flat refuses.
But Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, what the Lord says to me, that I shall speak” (v. 14, NASB).
In the huge crowd of ceremony and active prophecy, everyone waits for 
the word of the Lord through one man — Micaiah. I love it.
I love it because I want to share Micaiah’s response under this kind of pressure — two kings, a huge crowd and competing prophets. King Ahab speaks against Micaiah because “he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil” (v. 8b). But this same king says, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord” (v. 8a).
Even if you serve outside of the prophetic gift and office, Micaiah’s example should be inspiring. As Kingdom people God plants us in environments and systems to influence them for Him. He places us in tight spaces at times, with great pressure to stand for Him in the face of great men, great rulers, and the popular crowd who does what we do.
Just a thought… I want it to be said of me, when ministries and integral men and women need a truth-telling prophet who stays committed to God, that Holy Spirit can bring me to mind and they say, “Yes, but there is yet one…”
