Is Your Love Uncomfortable Yet?

Generally speaking, we do not like challenge where we remain convinced of our strength. I mean, who wants to hear “weakness” in places that look like or even have a measure of “strength”? Conquering the fundamentals requires regular self-checks.

For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. ~ Luke 6:32

outstanding-uncomfortableGrowth comes in the muck of challenge. We like to say we “love everybody,” until there arises confrontation of difference — in discipline, in core belief, in conditioning (early teaching and influences), in thought, in deed and practice. We can confuse LOVE with LIKE, and sometimes in error think agreement necessary for the presence of LOVE.

Jesus gives strong warning when He points out that sinners look for reciprocity in love. LIKE functions in community. Common ground and similarities create preference. But with challenge, we almost instinctively create distance.

Our challenge to Christlikeness is to love those who make us assess our discipleship, and teach us long-suffering and kindness until we all grow up in LOVE… through the discomfort.

Selah, and love to all.
