What’s the Best that Can Happen? (shift perspective)
These days almost mirror my late 20s… early to bed, very early to rise and phone calls for prayer and support not long after that. It’s my life and I love this part…especially the early mornings. My best focus and thoughts meet me when I wake. It’s wonderful…to hear before the thoughts start rolling and the clutter tries to distract me through over thinking and analysis. Early mornings are special time with the Father.
This morning I caught up with a good friend — meaning we’re nearly 20 years in — in her first year of law school. During her updates she recalled how her aunt challenged her to shift her perspective. She’s “Perky Polly” and “Octavia Optimist” anyway, but at times will ask, “What’s the worst that can happen?” Her aunt challenged her to ask instead
WHAT’S THE BEST THAT CAN HAPPEN?
WOW, right?! Sometimes the most impactful shifts we make are small. That question kept me company all day, and finally, I thought to share it with you!
Our Western approach to counting the costs lends more toward preparing for the worst. We spend good energy and irreplaceable time planning for the negative inevitable. This is not good if we do not balance the effort. Let’s practice.
Take a moment now and think about an issue at your door — BIG, PRESSING, and/or IMPOSSIBLE. Does the thought produce anxiety (fear) or confidence (faith)? More often than not, if we see no “reasonable” solution, then the thought produces anxiety.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ~ Phlippians 4:6 NASB (emphasis added)
Now force yourself to think of the best possible outcomes. Now offer that as your request to God, with thanksgiving for manifesting His GOOD THOUGHTS CONCERNING YOU (See Jeremiah 29:11).
I know. It’s easier said than done…but it can be done. So let’s shift from the worst to the best? Let’s make room for faith to create for us by our words (See Hebrews 11:3).
