Here is a beautiful quote from the Bonhoeffer devotional. No summary is necessary, really. I just want to share it with you.
So, hidden in every moment is this threefold reality: I recognize God as the Lord of my life, I bow before Christ as the turning point of my life from judgment to grace, and in the midst of the spirit of the world I endeavor to make room and power for the Holy Spirit… (p. 167)
Bonhoeffer says that all we have — in today and tomorrow — is the present. It is the NOW. The present is the opportune time. Wrapped up in the practical application of this thought is the warning against delay and procrastination, but its significance is bigger. Do not serve the NOW, but serve the opportune time. That is, serve God in the present. (I know, right?!)
To serve God in the present includes strength of mind and will to resist the popular trends and doings of people. This service is not slavery, where we give ourselves over to time or the NOW (and in that follow ourselves into fruitless cycles).
To serve the opportune time — or, the opportunity given in time — we simply serve God.
This blessed me. Have an amazing day, Royal Ones. Selah, and love to all.
