Isaiah 65:24 is one of my favorite verses because it encourages my prayer life.
Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear. (CJB)
Our God is a great listener. We know that because He responds to us…and at some point in our spiritual growth, we get grateful and happy-glad for just hearing from Him, whether the answer is what we want or not, because
I remember when the Spirit of Truth revealed I lacked love, and was just making noise (1 Corinthians 13:1). I was in my mid-20s, and began studying and writing prayer confessions about love. During this process I learned I was mainly making noise because I lacked listening skills. I wanted to have deep, thriving, living, relationships where I wasn’t constantly trying to be heard but where I could make room to listen to another.
So, I started studying to be quiet (1 Thessalonians 4:11) and to contain my inner noise. I asked Holy Spirit to teach me about a meek and quiet spirit that is precious to Him (1 Peter 3:4). And I learned to actively listen…and saw that I was practicing my answer and cutting people off. What a wonderful time of learning…these days, people have to wonder what I am thinking because I want to listen more than speak.
Our love walk is about how we reflect God, not how entitled we feel to be loved by others. Growing in grace and in the knowledge of the Father is about our character transformation to relate to others in more godly ways. We want to be like Him…so let’s go and do. Let’s learn to be a God-listener and love people in a way that we can be the answer while they are still speaking!
Whoo, that’s good! Selah, and love to all.
