This past weekend I was privileged to attend a one-day conference for women, many of whom gave their testimony before a large group for the first time. The love and support was palpable for those courageous women who took a risk and offered a glimpse into their past to boast of God’s miraculous deliverance. They shared their stories bravely, unaware of what and how certain details might affect the audience. And when I tell you the topics ran the gamut, it was an indicator of the kinds of needs the rest of us represented… and, how badly we needed someone to give our needs a voice.
After the conference, one of the miracle ladies came to me. Waves of people encouraged her for great speaking effort, as well as how she inspired them. She came to me and said something that was so powerful that it did not hit me until last night (two days later). She said to me,
…you’re my favorite…
(For just a moment, if you’re tempted, step away from the religious “she’s-stealing-God’s-glory” perspective. Please know I’m making a point.)
We do not attend the same church, or see each other regularly to have a close rapport. Whenever we see each other it is a friendly exchange.
Those three little words were not mine to take as mine. They were mine to receive as God’s… He saw me, yet again, and reminded me that there are people with no motive or agenda or network of collusion who will choose me from His love. Isn’t that amazing?
One of the predominant themes of my life as a Gifted Girl was that I was nobody’s favorite. People thought that certain phrases or buzz words convinced me of their loyalty or affection. They thought, as I sometimes say, I was “boo boo the fool”. They thought I did not see that their attraction was to my gift. The interesting thing about carnal, greedy takers is that they remain so self-absorbed and operating in their own interests that they may not see when God opens our eyes to their plotting.
I share this as part reflection, and part message for the Gifted Girl. God still sees us, and knows us, and when He speaks He knows just how to reach us even in a small sea of people at a conference.
Be encouraged Gifted Girl, and consider John 10:14 —
Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life, Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life; Words of life and beauty teach me faith and duty Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life; Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.
I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know me
Love to all.
