Well, what can we say! We studied Leah and her sons as a reverse example of wisdom and the descent we take in thought and speech when we do not cry out to God for wisdom. Keep in mind (and we refer to it in the recording) the previous lesson on Proverbs 2. These verses help us transition to the case for wisdom.
AVOIDING THE SEAT OF THE STRANGE WOMAN IS OUR CHOICE TO REMAIN IN OUR QUEENLY SEAT OF DIVINE WISDOM.
Ephesians 4:26-27 (NASB) says,
Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.
Consider the meanings of anger and place. Anger is agitation of the soul, impulse, any violent emotion and desire. Place refers to the place we occupy and possess, power, an occasion to act, and the condition or position in an assembly.
WE POSSESS THE OPPORTUNITY AND WE CHOOSE TO GIVE IT TO THE DEVIL.
Consider as well the context of this lesson. We are not Leah. We approach these passages from a born again position in Christ, from a different dispensation and with the understanding of a better covenant. Leah’s God-given opportunity or place was her ability to conceive and bear children.
Son #1: Ruben (Genesis 29:32) – Leah declared God saw her and gave her Ruben. She said Jacob would love her now. This is the victim mentality that gives up opportunity for attention.
Son #2: Simeon (v. 33) – This time, God heard Leah and gave her this son. This is the move on a half truth, where yes, children are a gift and blessing from the Lord, but Leah is obviously focused on her hurt and affliction.
Son #3: Levi (v. 34) – Leah’s declaration demonstrates her dysfunction. She now has three sons for Jacob and declares he will now join himself to her.
Son #4: Judah (v. 35) – By the birth of the fourth son Leah seems to feel justified in her position. This is the mindset that wants to force a result. It says, “I can still get what I want because of what I did for attention, for love, out of selfishness, loneliness, and pain.”
OUR OPPORTUNITY IS PRESENT FOR OUR CHOOSING. IT IS NOT TO MANIPULATE A RESPONSE FROM SOMEONE ELSE.
Son #5: Gad (Genesis 30:9-11) – Leah declares her good fortune when her maid Zilpah births this son. This is the mindset we reflect when we want to believe, but we are really too weak to work our measure of faith.
Son #6: Asher (vv. 12-13) – We call Leah a casualty of culture in this study. And here, she declares that she will not go unnoticed. If Jacob will not see her, the women will recognize her birth of so many sons.
Son #7: Issachar (vv. 17-18) – Listen carefully to this part of the recording. This is the point of supposed vindication for Leah, where her first son positions her to take an advantage over her sister Rachel.
Son #8: Zebulun (vv. 19-20) – With a mature delusion, Leah declares that the six sons from her own body will convince Jacob to dwell with her now. I call this her swan song. She made these sons part of her fight to create a life from the disadvantage she was forced to live out.
We see no place where Leah called on the name of the Lord. We have no record that she cried out for wisdom. We have that knowledge. We understand the power of wisdom better now. Let’s stay seated, and keep our peace, perspective, posture, and position.
