On Staying Seated

Reminders hit me over the last few days from the Queen Life Live event that forced me to slow down and meditate. The Lord’s been educating us on how to avoid the seat of the scornful…how to better guard our hearts…how to maintain awareness of our heart’s condition. And the focal point is a seat.

In his book Sit, Walk, Stand, Watchman Nee (1977) presents a commentary on the Book of Ephesians. He begins with our position in Christ…want to guess what it is? OUR POSITION IN CHRIST IS TO SIT…as in a seat of rest IN HIM. Wow. Here are a few short quotes about our seat in Christ.

“…the word sit…is the secret of a true Christian experience.” (p. 11)

“God has made us to sit with Christ in the heavenly places, and every Christian must begin his spiritual life from that place of rest.” (p. 11)

“Most Christians make the mistake of trying to walk in order to be able to sit, but that is a reversal of the true order.” (p. 14)

Sitting” is an attitude of rest. Something has been finished, work stops, and we sit.” (p. 15

“Our Christian life begins with the discovery of what God has provided.” (p. 17)

seatofscornYou see, we have an alternative to the seat of the scornful (pictured) already provided for us by the Father. The seat of the scornful binds our hearts and entices us to rest and receive support in the wrong seat. It is an easy seat. On the other hand, our seat in Christ is by faith. We have to believe it. We must see it.

This is just a little food for thought. The Father provided a way for us to choose Him. It is my firm belief that He will help us serve Him…if we want to serve Him. This is just one example. If you want out of toxic environments, then envision your alternative, head towards it, and sit down and take your rest in the Father.

We all have a choice, and as my pastor says, “You do not know your true level of commitment to a person, place, or thing, until you have options.” Selah.

Love to all.

  1. Thank you for this. It was really nice to read. As I sit in a place right now that I will begin to focus on differently and attempt “Rest”.
