A Seat without Wisdom

To the righteous, the scorner speaks a foreign language. The inference is that scorning is not what the righteous do. Once we embrace our new nature in Christ, attempts to talk like before, while doable by act of will are not natural anymore.

Let’s review what we know about the scorner—

  1. The scorner is continually scorned by God, operates in pride, and is resisted by God.
  2. The scorner is known remotely by God.
  3. For the scorner judgments (decisions, sentences) are in queue.

And now, #4: The seat of the scorner is a seat without wisdom. We consider Proverbs 14:6.

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

Isn’t this interesting? The scorner, with whom God deals remotely, still seeks God. Uh oh…this suggests that the scorner does not recognize that his mocking is an error and offends God.

He looks high AND low for wisdom…fasting, pastoral counseling, counsel from those in his environment who are also unaware of their distance from God….and over and over (-eth), does not find God’s way. The bottom line: scorners are locked out of wisdom.

Keep in mind that Psalm 1 emphasizes the benefit of right spiritual posture by explaining that we (the righteous) are blessed when we do NOT 1) walk in ungodly counsel, 2) stand in the way of sinners, and 3) sit in the seat of the scornful. Walk, sit and stand are all spiritual postures. The posture of the scorner — rest in a toxic environment — prevents his/her access to wisdom.

When we cross-reference with Psalm 111:10a

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…

and Psalm 25:14

The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him.

we find that the scorner lacks the fear of the Lord and thus, is not privy to the secret of the Lord. He/She is locked out of wisdom.

This is another reason to avoid the seat of the scornful…we do not want to exert all this energy seeking God and be locked out. It is a frustrating way to live — to know where the answer lies, pursue wisdom the right way, but because of our posture we cannot access what we need. Wow.

Selah, and love to all.
