Living the Character of Petition

Click here to listen: Living the Character of Petition

We introduced this queenly characteristic with the daughters of Zelophehad in Numbers 27:1-11. Through their legitimacy, their regard for order, their bravery and their boldness we learned the nature and definition of petition:

To ask for a thing in the time the thing is being given. To speak for the need in the time the need is being met.

We learned that in the time portions are granted we do not need faith, but boldness. These five ladies taught us how to make our case in the time of portions. And, they did it in a way that was bold and followed protocol. Yes, that is possible.

To demonstrate how to live this character of petition we studied Daniel 6, emphasis in verses 10-11. Here is how we live the character of petition:

    • Be consistent in prayer
    • Be disciplined in prayer
    • Be focused in prayer
    • Be found in prayer

Here are the principles we covered in this lesson:

    • My saboteur respects my faithfulness enough to know I won’t fall back on my commitment to God.
    • Clean hands before God is only one part of why God brings deliverance. (See 6:22 – Daniel was innocent before God and did no wrong to the king.)
    • We will do what we have always done. (Prayer was Daniel’s custom.)
    • Own God before men.
