In no way is my attempt irreverent to portray our Lord as a hijacker. As a writer I try to paint word pictures, and today I want us to consider the Lord in this way through today’s word: ROUTE. It means to direct, to send by a selected route, and to divert in a specified direction. Divert means to turn from one course to another.
Before Apostle Paul saw the light and converted, his name was Saul and he persecuted Christians. He was committed to do a wrong thing, but thought it was God’s work. He set off on a trip to Damascus with delegated authority to imprison more Christians. He was on his chosen course. Then he encountered the Lord, and was routed–diverted in a specified direction. Let’s look at Acts 9:1-2, 6.
And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, and desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem…And he [Saul] trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
When the Lord routes us it does not always mean a change of destination. It may mean a change of purpose or assignment, like in Saul’s case. It does not mean we were doing the wrong thing. Some things are right and “good”; they just aren’t God’s will for us. It is the immature believer who jumps to the immediate conclusion that the “devil is busy”. It is very possible that the Lord Himself might interrupt our process and route us, direct us, divert us to His specified way.
Consider the “sharp turns” and “steep curves” of your life. My prayer is that now you can see how God routes you. He steps into your plan, and shifts you to His plan. He does it, and we are better for it.
Amen.
